Dr. Veronica Buchumi is a lawyer with more than ten years of experience in legal practice. In developing and advancing her career, Dr. Buchumi desires to drive and see not only economic but also socially conscious legal practice. To make this desire a reality at ECRA, Dr. Buchumi brings a blend of skills, including empathy, assertiveness, and active listening skills to meet the multifaceted needs of the ECRA clientele.
In her more than eight years of legal practice, she has mainly been involved in legal consultancy and research in the field of Migration and Refugee Law. In the face of the 21st Century where mobility and migration are inevitable, Dr. Buchumi’s harnessed skills in Migration Law including Labour related migration, she is well positioned to serve national and international clients seeking legal advice and opinion relating to migration, including residence, employment, and family reunification in Tanzania and beyond.
In her other world, Dr. Buchumi is a passionate and zealous researcher and lecturer of Law at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law where she continues to be professionally groomed and nurtured. Her ten years at the University of Dar es Salaam have availed her an opportunity to garner not only theoretical but also practical legal skills in diverse fields including migration law, succession law and administration of estates, human rights and strategic litigation. Academically, Dr. Buchumi holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL. B. – 2013), and Master of Laws (LL.M. – 2014) both from the University of Dar es Salaam. Further, she holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Law (PhD Law – 2021) from the University of Bayreuth, Germany. She also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law School of Tanzania. Thus, she is an advocate of the High Court of Tanzania, and a member of the Tanganyika Law Society and East African Law Society.
